The Australia - China (2-0) match, in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup 2015 (Australia, from 09 to 31/01/2015), which was broadcast on the Chinese state TV channel CCTV-5, achieved an average of 27 million viewers during the match, on 22/01/2015. CCTV-5 registered a peak audience of 32 million viewers. The combined average audience, including the regional broadcasters of the game in China, was 76 million viewers and reached a peak combined audience of 95 million viewers.

The average audience of this match on CCTV-5 sets a new record audience in China for a football match, stated the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), the organiser of the competition, on 24/01/2015. The previous record belonged to the final of the 2013 AFC Champions League between the Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande and the South Korean club FC Seoul (1-1, on 09/11/2013). That match was watched by 23.68 million viewers on average on CCTV-5, with a combined average audience of 30.02 million viewers in China.
