Super League: "FIFA and UEFA have abused their dominant position" (Madrid Commercial Court)

The Commercial Court of Madrid (ESP) "partially upholds the action brought by the European Super League Company S.L. (ESLC) against UEFA and FIFA and finds that both bodies have abused their dominant position and prevented free competition in the market by granting themselves the discretionary power to prohibit participation in alternative competitions and to impose unjustified and disproportionate restrictions that infringe articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU)", announced the Spanish court on 27/05/2024.

The decision comes just over five months after the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) delivered its decision as part of a reference for a preliminary ruling brought by ESLC, the company established to develop the European Super League project.
