FIFA: Joseph Blatter confirms his candidature for a fifth term as president

Joseph Blatter, the president of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) since 08/06/1998, announced on Twitter that he has filed his candidacy for a fifth term as the head of the international body on 29/01/2015.

Deadline to file a candidacy for the FIFA presidency is 29/01/2015 (midnight, in all time zones), vote to be held on 29/05/2015

• The deadline to file a candidacy is 29/01/2015, four months to the day before the election which will be held during the FIFA Congress in Zurich (SUI) on 29/05/2015.
• Applicants must be officially supported by at least five of the 209 national federations affiliated to FIFA and prove that they been active in football as a player or official for at least two of the last five years.

Conditions for a presidential bid (Article 24 of the FIFA Statutes)

• Only member associations of FIFA are entitled to nominate candidates for the office of president of FIFA.
