Bundesliga: an average of 39,502 spectators per game (-8%) & average fill rate of 96.2% in 2023-24

The 18 Bundesliga clubs drew an average of 39,502 spectators per match during the 2023-24 season, down 8% on the 2022-23 season (42,967 spectators). The German top flight thus welcomed a total of 12.1 million spectators, compared with 13.1 million in 2022-23. This puts the Bundesliga first among the European Top 5 in terms of attendance, ahead of the Premier League (37,666 on average per game).

This drop is mainly due to the relegation of FC Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC at the end of the 2022-23 season. These two clubs had an average home attendance of 61,131 and 53,543 respectively, i.e. the 3^rd and 4^th best home attendance figures in the 2022-23 Bundesliga. They were replaced in the German top flight by SV Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Heidenheim, who posted the lowest figures in the 2023-24 season with 17,718 and 15,000 spectators on average per game respectively.

With 81,305 spectators per match at the Signal Iduna Park (81,365 capacity), Borussia Dortmund was the German club with the best attendance in the Bundesliga in 2023-24, ahead of FC Bayern Munich (75,000) and Eintracht Frankfurt…
