Watford FC: a 10% capital increase to raise £17.5m (€20.6m) launched with fans

Watford FC (Sky Bet Championship) has launched a 10% capital increase in order to raise £17.5m (€20.6m) from its supporters, announced the club on 04/06/2024. The English club, which values itself at £175m, is issuing shares at £12.44 each.

"In common with many other clubs, we have been exploring opportunities to bring investment into the club as we look to grow the club further and bolster revenue streams which, in turn, allow us to strengthen the playing squads. Having looked at a number of options, we have decided to take the exciting and innovative step of becoming one of the first major English clubs to offer true ownership to fans and investors alike," explained the club, which has been owned by Italian Gino Pozzo since 2012.

"Once the shares have been purchased, there is a lock up period of 12 months before trading is allowed. Part of the funding will be channeled into recruitment to strengthen Tom Cleverley’s playing squad as we seek a return to the Premier League. We believe this project can form a key strand of football's future finance," continued the club.
