FIFA: Jerome Champagne lacks support of five federations, no longer candidate for president

"I regret to have to announce that I have not presented the five sponsorship letters needed to be registered as a candidate in the election of 29/05/2015," stated the Frenchman Jerome Champagne in a press release dated 31/01/2015 and published on 02/02/2015.

Jerome Champagne said he did manage to get the official support of three of the 209 national federations as of the deadline of 29/01/2015, however minimum required to be a candidate for the presidency of FIFA is five. The elction will be held during the annual FIFA Congress on 29/05/2015 in Zurich (SUI).

"The candidature of the Dutchman Michael van Praag, who indicated he is supported by the federations of the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Scotland, the Faroe Islands and Romania, deprived myself of three supporters," Jerome Chapagne told News Tank on 28/01/2015. The former deputy secretary general of FIFA was the first to announce his intention to run for president in 2015 of the international federation on 20/01/2014.
