2022-23 Barclays WSL: a record £48m (+50%) in revenue for the 12 English clubs according to Deloitte

• A record of £48m (€56.8m) in aggregate revenue for the 12 Barclays Women's Super League clubs at the end of the 2022-23 season, up 50% on 2021-22 (£32m);
• An average revenue of £4m per club, with the top four generating 66% of total revenue;
• Total wage costs of £36m (€42.6m) for players, an increase of 45%;
• A wage/revenue ratio that fell from 78% to 75%.

These are the main indicators in the "Annual Review of Football Finance" published by the UK branch of the audit and consultancy firm Deloitte on 20/06/2024, which covers the season just after Women's Euro 2022 hosted by England.

While matchday revenues reached £7m thanks to an average attendance of 5,616 spectators per game, up 200% on 2021-22 (1,923), sponsorship remained the leading source of revenue, at £17m (35%). Revenue from TV rights, which stood at £7.2m in 2022-23 (15% of the total), did not change, as the season analysed is part of the 2021-2024 cycle.

In addition, pre-tax losses for WSL clubs amounted to £21m for the 2022-23 season, compared with £14m in 2021-22.
