Handball: 9.1 million viewers for France-Qatar on TF1, a record audience for the sport in France

France - Qatar (25-22), the final of the 2015 Handball World Championship (held in Qatar from 15/01 to 01/02/2015), attracted an average audience of 9.1 million viewers to the French private free-TV channel TF1 during the game (between 5pm and 7pm ECT), on Sunday 01/02/2015. This figure represents an audience share of 43.3%. A peak audience of 12.6 million viewers was recorded late in the game, which saw France win its fifth Handball World Championship since 1995.

This is the highest average audience ever recorded in France for a handball game. France - Sweden (22-21), the final of the London 2012 Olympic Games, attracted an average 5.6 million viewers (51% audience share, peak audience of 7.4 million viewers) on 12/08/2014, while France - Denmark (41-32), the final of Euro 2014, was watched by an audience of 4.8 million people (24.4% audience share, peak audience of 7 million viewers) on Sunday 26/01/2014. Both events were broadcast at the time by the public channel France 2.
