The Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga will be expanded from 12 to 14 teams from the 2025-26 season, as decided by the DFB executive board, following the recommendation of the Women's Bundesliga (AFBL) and Women's and Girls' Football (AFM) committees, announced the German Football Association on 23/06/2024.

As a result, there will be only one relegated team (instead of two) at the end of the 2024-25 Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga season. However, the top three teams in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga will be promoted. If one or more of these three clubs are unable or unwilling to join the top flight, then there will be no relegation, according to the DFB.

No changes are planned for the time being in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga, which must therefore retain its 14 participating teams: as the top three will move up in 2025, just one club will be drop down from the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga and the bottom three will be relegated as in 2024, the five champions of the women's regional leagues will all be promoted to the second division (14 - 3 + 1 - 3 + 5 = 14).
