esports: FIFA to launch its first global competition on Rocket League (car football game)

FIFAe, the official FIFA section dedicated to esports, has entered into a partnership with the video games publisher Psyonix (owned by Epic Games) and is to launch a global competition named FIFAe World Cup based on the football car game Rocket League, announced the body on 23/06/2024, ahead of the RLCS London Major tournament on the Rocket League global circuit.

This is not only FIFA's first tournament on this game, but also its first esports competition since the end of its partnership with Electronic Arts, which was announced on 10/05/2022. The American publisher did not seek to renew its licensing agreement for the "FIFA" games, which were renamed "EA Sports FC" in 2023. Between 2019 and 2023, FIFA offered an esports circuit that included several competitions (FIFAe World Cup, FIFAe Nations Series, FIFAe Club Series, eChampions League, etc.) played on the various iterations of FIFA games.
