Bundesliga: Wohninvest goes bankrupt and terminates naming agreement for Werder Bremen's stadium

"The Wohninvest Weserstadion (42,100 capacity) will change its name after 30/06/2024 and will be referred to as Weserstadion again for the time being. This change is due to the insolvency of the real estate group Wohninvest and the resulting termination of all contracts and partnerships on 30/06/2024," announced SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga) on 28/06/2024.

The German real estate group had acquired the naming rights for the Weserstadion from Bremer Weser-Stadion GmbH, the branch in charge of Werder Bremen's stadium, from the 2019-20 season on 13/06/2019. The agreement initially covered a 10-year period, until 06/30/2029, and was worth "around €30m (€3m per season)" to the club, according to Werder Bremen. Wohninvest, which was placed into compulsory liquidation on 24/05/2024, is a year behind on payment schedule, according to the German media.

"SV Werder Bremen has given itself until spring to find a new partner," said the club.
