4,656 abusive comments targeting the 622 social media accounts of those participating in Euro 2024 (players, coaches and national team accounts) have been reported under UEFA's 'Respect' programme, which aims to "monitor, report and remedy cases" of online abuse during UEFA competitions, announced UEFA on 01/07/2024.

Among the abusive comments detected:
• 308 were reported directly to the platforms on which they were posted so that they can take "further action";
• 71% were the subject of action by the platforms concerned;
• 74% of the messages reported were aimed at players, 15% at coaches, 7% at team accounts and 4% at referees;
• 94% concerned general abuse (not specifically aimed at a group or community), 4.5% contained racist insults and 1.5% homophobic insults.

On average, abusive messages "were removed promptly after an average of 75 minutes". Furthermore, "after each match, the results are shared with the national associations of the teams involved, enabling them to take further action by reporting abusive content to the German law enforcement authorities," explained UEFA.
