Winter Transfers 2015: Top 5 spent €388.6m (+20%), 41.5% of which (€161.3m) by the Premier League

The Barclays Premier League was the most active of the main 5 European Championships (the others being the Liga BBVA, the Bundesliga, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1) during the 2015 winter transfer window with €161.3m spent on transfers (stable compared to 2014, €161.5m) and received €122.8m from transfer activities (down 2% compared to 2014, €125.3m), according to data from the specialised site Transfermarkt on 03/02/2015.

In total, the five major European championships spent €388.6m on transfers in 2015, up 20% compared to 2014 (€323.8m) and received €253m, up 12.6% (€224.6m).

Ligue 1 spent the least of the top 5 leagues

  • The 20 clubs of the Ligue 1 carried out 82 transfers (43 outgoing, 39 incoming) during the 2015 winter transfer window (from 03/01 to 02/02/2015 at midnight), spending €32m on acquisitions and generating €9.6m from transfer activities.
  • The number of transfers decreased by 18% compared to the 2014 transfer window (100 transfers), the amount spent on acquisitions of players fell by 38.8% (€52.3m in 2014), while there was also a decline in the amount generated from…
