Euro 2024: Spain crowned European champions for the 4^th time after beating England 2-1 in the final

Spain won the 17^th edition of the UEFA European Football Championship with a 2-1 victory over England on Sunday 14/07/2024 at the Olympiastadion (70,000 capacity) in Berlin, Germany.

This is the fourth European Championship won by La Roja after the 1964 edition (semi-finals, match for third place and final held in Spain), the 2008 edition (16 teams/in Austria and Switzerland) and the 2012 edition (16 teams/in Ukraine and Poland). Spain succeed Italy, who won in 2021 (Euro 2020 was postponed by a year due to the Covid pandemic), against England. No other nation has done better: Germany has three titles, Italy and France two.

The Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF), which won all seven of their matches in Germany, will receive €28.25m from UEFA, the highest amount possible. In addition to the €9.25m paid to each of the 24 participating teams, the Spanish side will receive €3m in bonuses for results in the group stage (€1m for each of their three victories in Group B), €1.5m for qualifying for the Round of 16, €2.5m for the quarter-finals and €4m for reaching the semi-finals…
