"We have been talking with FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) about this for quite a long time and we have the clear commitment of the FIFA president that this will not happen. This is in the mutual interest, it would be a lose-lose situation. Neither the World Cup nor the Winter Olympic Games would get the full attention they deserve", said Thomas Bach, president of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), about the scheduling of the 2022 World Cup, on 03/02/2015.

Since 1964, every edition of the Winter Olympic Games has been held in February, which is one of the options being considered by FIFA in case of moving the 2022 World Cup to winter to avoid high temperatures in Qatar in summer. "It would cause major problems with the broadcasters. It would cause major problems with the sponsors", said Thomas Bach, on 03/02/2015.

  • The city that will host the Winter Olympics in 2022 will be announced on 31/07/2015.
    • Two cities are candidates: Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Beijing (China).
