FC Girondins de Bordeaux: Fenway Sports Group will not buy the club relegated to National 1

"FC Girondins de Bordeaux and its shareholder have been informed by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) of its intention not to pursue the discussions initiated in recent weeks with a view to buying the club," announced the French club on 16/07/2024.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux, 12^th in the Ligue 2 BKT in 2023-24, were relegate to the National 1 by the Commission de contrôle des clubs professionnels (Professional Clubs Control Committee) in application of article 11 of the DNCG regulations, as part of the examination of the situation of clubs for the 2024-25 sports season, on 09/07/2024.

The club reacted to this decision by highlighting the "continuation of discussions" with the American investment fund with a view to the DNCG's appeals commission, scheduled for around 23/07/2024. "The project to sell a majority stake in the capital to Fenway Sports Group was presented this morning to the DNCG in the presence of its representatives and we are working hand in hand with them as part of the continuation of negotiations and due diligence," said Girondins de Bordeaux at the time.
