Euro 2024: "A €20m budget to host the competition in Düsseldorf" (Thomas Neuhäuser)

"The City of Düsseldorf's budget for hosting Euro 2024 is around about €20m, for all the city operations, to manage the fan zones, mobility, security, volunteers, etc. We also have a separate budget for the cultural programme related to the tournament," said Thomas Neuhäuser, project manager of the host city of Düsseldorf (capital of the North Rhine-Westphalia region), to News Tank Football on 16/07/2024.

As the host city for five Euro 2024 matches, including two by the French team, Düsseldorf welcomed 300,000 people to the three areas reserved for supporters in the city (two fan zones at Burgplatz and Schauspielhaus, plus a giant screen at Rheinufer) where 220,000 litres of beer and 15,000 sausages were consumed, according to the local authority. The highest attendance was recorded for the England - Switzerland match (quarter-final), with 32,000 people present at the various venues on Saturday 06/07.

The Düsseldorf Arena was sold out for each of the matches played there, with nearly 250,000 spectators recorded in total. To get there, "fan walks" were organised by several nations…
