Piracy: LALIGA obtains "over than a thousand convictions" against public establishments

LALIGA has obtained "over than a thousand convictions" against public establishments (hotels, restaurants, bars, etc.) illegally broadcasting the Spanish league's content during the 2023-24 season, announced the body on 23/07/2024.

"An estimated 170,000 HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering) establishments in Spain are potential subscribers to football, of which approximately 50,000 were subscribed to LALIGA's HORECA channel in the 2023-24 season. This season LALIGA investigators were able to identify at least 15,000 establishments using illegal broadcasts, committing not only an offence against the intellectual property of the clubs, but also engaging in unfair competition against establishments that do comply with the law. The damaging effect is therefore double: against football and against the hotel and catering sector in Spain, resulting in losses of almost €35m a year," explained LALIGA.
