IOC: 2030 Winter Olympics officially awarded to the French Alps, subject to conditions

"The International Olympic Committee is honoured to announce that the 26^th Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2030 have been awarded to the French Alps, subject to the conditions set by the IOC Session," said Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, following a vote at the 142^nd IOC Session in Paris (FRA) on Wednesday 24/07/2024. The French Alps 2030 bid was selected with 95.4% of the votes cast (84 "Yes" votes, 4 "No" votes and 7 abstentions, making a total of 95 possible votes).

The 2030 Olympic Games will open in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions on 08/02/2030, i.e. 5 years and 5 months (nearly 2,000 days) after the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games (on 08/09/2024), and will close on 24/02/2030. France previously hosted the first winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix (Haute-Savoie), the 1968 Games in Grenoble (Isère) and the 1992 Games in Albertville (Savoie).
