Paris 2024: 69,000 spectators at the Stade de France on Day 1, an Olympic rugby sevens record

69,000 spectators were present at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis, FRA) for the first 12 matches of the group stage of the men's rugby sevens tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Wednesday 24/07/2024, according to World Rugby the same day.

This was a record for a single day of Olympic matches in the discipline, which was reintroduced at the Rio (Brazil) Games in 2016 and played behind closed doors at the Tokyo 2020 edition (Japan, shifted to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

"Rugby sevens ignited the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with a spectacular first day of action in front of the largest single day crowd in rugby sevens history with 69,000 fans packed into Stade de France and millions more watching around the world," explained World Rugby.

"The men's sevens continues on Thursday with the final round of pool matches from 14:00 local time before the quarter-finals begin at 20:00. Teams then take a rest on 26/07 as the Games Opening Ceremony takes place before finals day on 27/07," added the body.
