FC Girondins de Bordeaux: club files for bankruptcy & loses its professional status

"Following confirmation of the DNCG's decision to relegate FC Girondins de Bordeaux to National 1, the club filed for bankruptcy with the Commercial Court of Bordeaux (Gironde) on Tuesday 24/07, in order to begin the necessary restructuring. As a result, the Commercial Court will very shortly order the opening of collective proceedings, which will automatically result in the club losing its professional status," announced FCGB on 25/07/2024.

"Consequently, in view of the very tight deadlines before the start of the National 1 season, the club has had to abandon its request to maintain its professional status, as otherwise it would have had to reapply to the DNCG with a budget that did not correspond to the club's future reality, which could have led to severe additional sanctions. It's a difficult decision that anticipates an inevitable consequence of the restructuring process underway. While the training centre will close as a result, the club will continue to promote its youth teams," added the French club.
