Sports betting: English football authorities adopt a "code of conduct" from 2024-25

"The Premier League, EFL, The Football Association and Women's Super League have formally agreed to adopt a new code of conduct for gambling related agreements in football," announced the four English football authorities in a joint statement on 24/07/2024.

This code of conduct, which concerns advertising by clubs to betting operators, will come into force from the 2024-25 season, while the new Premier League regulations, which aim to limit the promotion of betting operators, will not come into force until 2026-27 (see below).

The code of conduct, which applies to football authorities and professional clubs, "alongside a number of other major national bodies of sport", is based on four guiding principles:

1. "Protection - to protect children and other vulnerable persons, gambling sponsorship must be specifically designed to limit its reach and promotion to those under the age of 18 and those at risk of gambling related harm;
