Premier League: playing games abroad "is the way it's going" according to S. Khan (Mayor of London)

On hosting Premier League matches abroad "I think that's the way it is going. We've seen some other leagues across Europe have some of their competitive games held elsewhere. All 32 NFL teams have now played in London (ENG) and all of them have had a great experience," said Sadiq Khan, Mayor (Labour Party) of London, to the Sports Agents podcast on 25/07/2024.

"We've got seven Premier League clubs in London (Arsenal FC, Brentford FC, Chelsea FC, Crystal Palace FC, Fulham FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC and West Ham United FC in 2024-25) but when you look at the way the Premier League works, a lot of the revenue they receive is TV rights. Liverpool FC, the team that I support, are currently on tour in America. I think the point that the Premier League would make and some of the owners would make is, why can't their fans in those countries benefit from a competitive game?" continued Sadiq Khan.

The mayor's comments come a month after Tom Werner, chairman of Liverpool FC, told the British daily Financial Times that he wanted to host official matches for his club in New York. An option quickly…
