Ligue 2 BKT: Kylian Mbappé to buy Oaktree's 80% stake and become owner of SM Caen

French international Kylian Mbappé (84 caps) is to become the owner of SM Caen (Ligue 2 BKT) by buying out the American investment fund Oaktree Capital Management, which previously owned 80% of the club, according to a report in Le Parisien and L'Equipe dated 29/04/2024 that News Tank has been able to confirm.

The 25-year-old, who has joined Real Madrid CF (LALIGA EA Sports) for five seasons from 2024-25, will acquire the Normandy club for between €15m and €20m via his investment fund, Interconnected Ventures, which was set up in 2018.

Oaktree had bought Stade Malherbe de Caen in September 2020 with Frenchman Pierre-Antoine Capton, co-founder of the Mediawan audiovisual group. Capton, chairman of the club's supervisory board, will remain a minority shareholder with a 20% stake, while Oaktree, which had announced its intention to withdraw from SM Caen in 2023, will no longer have a stake in the club.
