Ligue 2 BKT: Kylian Mbappé new owner of SM Caen after acquiring investment fund Oaktree's 80% stake

French international Kylian Mbappé (84 caps) has become the owner of SM Caen (Ligue 2 BKT) after buying the shares of the US investment fund Oaktree Capital Management, which previously owned 80% of the club, announced the latter on 31/07/2024. Completion of the deal, estimated at around €15m, remains subject to "a validation process with the relevant authorities."

The 25-year-old, who has joined Real Madrid CF (LALIGA EA Sports) for five seasons from 2024-25, has acquired the Normandy club via Coalition Capital, the investment arm of his company Interconnected Ventures set up in 2018.

Oaktree had acquired Stade Malherbe de Caen in September 2020 with Frenchman Pierre-Antoine Capton, co-founder of the Mediawan audiovisual group. Capton, chairman of the club's supervisory board, will remain a minority shareholder with a 20% stake, while Oaktree, which had announced its intention to withdraw from SM Caen in 2023, will no longer have a stake in the club.
