FC Girondins de Bordeaux: club administratively relegated to National 2 by the DNCG

During its meeting on Thursday 01/08/2024, the DNCG's Federal Club Control Committee decided to administratively relegate FC Girondins de Bordeaux to National 2, announced the FFF the same day.

The Bordeaux club, 12^th in the Ligue 2 BKT in 2023-24, were demoted to National 1 by the LFP's Professional Club Control Committee on 09/07/2024 due to their financial situation. The club appealed, citing negotiations underway at the time with the American investment fund Fenway Sports Group, a potential buyer. However, the fund eventually withdrew its bid, resulting in the club's appeal being withdrawn. Owner Gérard Lopez wanted the club to return to National 1 as part of an overall restructuring.

On 24/07, FC Girondins de Bordeaux filed for bankruptcy with the Commercial Court of Bordeaux (Gironde, FRA), which on 30/07 opened administration proceedings, resulting in the loss of the club's professional status and, among other consequences, the end of professional player contracts and the closure of the training centre.
