Paris 2024: opening ceremony "best audience ever" in France including replay viewing (24.42 million)

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony has become the best-ever television audience in France, with an average of 24.42 million viewers on the public TV channel France 2 (France Télévisions), after the addition of replay viewings (an extra 1.19 million at D+7), according to data from the audience measurement institute Médiamétrie.

The ceremony initially drew an average of 23.24 million viewers when it was broadcast live on France 2 on Friday 26/07/2024 (from 19:26 to 23:30 CET), according to Médiamétrie. Audience share: 83.1%. A peak of 25.2 million viewers was recorded at 21:56. It was also broadcast on the channels of the pay-TV group Eurosport (Warner Bros. Discovery).

The best audience in France was previously held by the 2022 World Cup final (Argentina - France), which drew an average of 24.08 million viewers on the private free-TV channel TF1 on Sunday 18/12/2022 (kick-off at 16:00 CET), again according to Médiamétrie (audience share: 81%).
