France/Piracy: LFP secures an injunction to block access to pirate IPTV services for the fourth time

"In an order issued on 02/08, the President of the Paris Magistrates' Court ordered French internet service providers to block access to live streaming sites and major IPTV services broadcasting the Ligue 1 McDonald's and Ligue 2 BKT championships without authorisation," announced the Ligue de Football Professionnel on 12/08/2024.

"While this decision is the fourth blocking injunction obtained by the LFP since the creation of the anti-sports piracy mechanism in January 2022, it is the first to have been obtained prior to the start of a season, on the basis of findings of serious and repeated infringements of the LFP's audiovisual exploitation rights during the previous season," explained the French League, ahead of the start of the 2024-25 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons on Friday 16/08.

"This injunction will protect the LFP's rights from the first matchday of the new season. The League will then be able, as permitted by article L. 333-10 of the French Sports Code, to refer the matter to Arcom for the purpose of implementing blocking measures throughout the season against any new IPTV…
