Canal+: extension of the exclusive multi-year distribution agreement for beIN SPORTS in France

"The Canal+ Group and beIN SPORTS are renewing their multi-year agreement for the exclusive distribution of beIN SPORTS channels in France, including the big Ligue 1 McDonald's game each matchday (alternating between 1^st and 2^nd choice) every Saturday at 17:00 (CET), at no extra cost to subscribers," announced the Vivendi Group subsidiary on 13/08/2024.

The initial agreement, made official on 12/02/2020 as part of a wider deal involving the sub-licensing to Canal+ of two Ligue 1 games per matchday over the 2020-2024 cycle first acquired by beIN SPORTS from the LFP, took effect on 01/06/2020. It brought in €250m a year for the Qatari group's channel. According to L'Équipe, the new agreement will be worth more than this, and will run until 2030 (in 2020, the two parties indicated that their agreement was valid for a renewable period of five years).
