France: Canal+ enters new agreement with DAZN to distribute the sports streaming platform

Canal+ Group and the sports streaming platform DAZN have entered into a "new distribution partnership in France," announced the two parties on 13/08/2024.

"From (Friday) 16/08/2024, Canal+ will offer its subscribers DAZN packages including the DAZN 1 live channel, up to four additional channels and an associated non-linear offer. Canal+ subscribers who take up the DAZN option will thus be able to enjoy all Ligue 1 McDonald's matches broadcast by DAZN, i.e. 8 Ligue 1 games per matchday, live and exclusive, as well as the Trophée des Champions and play-off matches. These Ligue 1 McDonald's matches include the 10 top fixtures each season," explained the two parties, who signed an initial distribution agreement with the British OTT platform on 12/08/2023 (see "further reading" section).

DAZN, which at the beginning of July 2024 picked up the exclusive rights to broadcast Betclic Elite in its entirety in France for five seasons until 2028-29, and most notably, obtained the rights to broadcast eight of the nine Ligue 1 games on each matchday at the beginning of August for the same period…
