England: top 2 women's leagues officially integrated into WPLL, a company independent of The FA

"Today marks the beginning of a new era for women's professional football in England with the completion of the agreement to transfer ownership of its top two tiers (Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Championship) to a new independent company, Women's Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL)," announced The FA, previously in charge of the two women's leagues, on 16/08/2024. Each of the 23 clubs competing in 2024-25 - 12 in the first division and 11 in the second - therefore becomes a shareholder in the newly created company.

"Led by CEO Nikki Doucet, the new company is founded on a new vision and mission to transform women’s football by building the most distinctive, competitive and entertaining women’s football club competition in the world for the players and fans of today and tomorrow," said The Football Association, which adopted the project on 28/11/2023.
