USA: NBA requests dismissal of Warner Bros. Discovery's lawsuit for 2025-2036 TV rights (press)

The National Basketball Association filed a motion with the Supreme Court of New York (New York, USA) on 23/08/2024 to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Warner Bros. Discovery (on 26/07/2024) regarding the allocation of the NBA's domestic media rights for the 2025-2036 cycle, according to several US media reports on 24/08/2024.

This lawsuit was filed after the NBA awarded the league's domestic TV rights to The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal and Amazon for the 2025-2036 cycle two days earlier. The new agreement is valued at $76bn (€68bn), or $7bn (€6.2 billion) per season, according to American media. The total amount would thus be 3.16 times greater than that of the current cycle, with the US groups ESPN and TNT Sports (Warner Bros. Discovery) currently paying $24bn (€21.5bn), or $2.67bn (€2.39bn) per season, for the NBA's domestic media rights over the 2016-2025 cycle.
