International Match Calendar: "Excessive demands imposed on players" (World Leagues Association)

"This comprehensive and critical report from FIFPRO, based on the latest and most accurate data, highlights the unsustainable trend of continually adding international games to the already congested match calendar. While the international calendar post-2024 makes it increasingly challenging for national leagues to manage their competitions, this report further demonstrates the excessive demands imposed on players," said the World Leagues Association on 05/09/2024.

The body, representing 45 national professional football leagues around the world, is reacting to the publication of the "Player Workload Monitoring Report 2024" by the global union of professional players on 04/09/2024.

The report (see below) highlights in particular:
• "widespread player concerns over excessive workload in men’s football;
• some players get the equivalent of less than one full day off per week, contravening international health and safety standards;
• 54% of 1,500 players monitored faced excessive or high workload demands, with a significant number exceeding the recommended limits by medical experts."
