Spain: RFEF presidential election to be held on 07/10/2024, if there are several candidates

The call for candidates for the presidency of the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol, which will be published on 11/09, will be open from Thursday 12 to Monday 16/09 and the election will take place on 07/10/2024 if there is more than one candidate, announced the RFEF on 09/09/2024. "If only one candidate is put forward, this stage (of the election) will not be necessary."

The RFEF's Management Committee, chaired by María Ángeles García Chaves, is in charge of the electoral process within the Spanish Football Association. The former player has chaired the body since Pedro Rocha was suspended for two years (in addition to a €33,000 fine) in July 2024 by the Spanish Administrative Court for Sport (TAD/Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte).

Pedro Rocha is accused of overstepping his duties, in particular when sacking Andreu Camps, the former RFEF general secretary, a decision that did not fall within his remit. The TAD also accused Pedro Rocha of improperly terminating the contract between the Federation and the law firm Tomás González Cueto, GC Legal.
