FC Bayern Munich: Allianz Arena address renamed in tribute to Franz Beckenbauer

The address of FC Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena (Munich, GER) will be renamed in tribute to Franz Beckenbauer, the former German international defender (103 caps between 1965 and 1977) who died on Sunday 07/01/2024 at the age of 78, announced the club on 19/09/2024.

Werner-Heisenberg-Allee, which runs along the south and west sides of the stadium, will be renamed Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz in January 2025, one year after the death of the two-time Ballon d'Or winner (1972 and 1976). The stadium will be located at number 5, the same address as the one worn by the 'Kaiser' during his career with Bayern Munich, from 1964 to 1977.

"Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz with the house number 5 at the Allianz Arena - that is a befitting address for FC Bayern’s Kaiser. This honour will see his memory live on from game to game," said Herbert Hainer, president of the Bavarian club, after the initiative, proposed by Bayern Munich, was accepted by the city council.
