Champions League: Marseille candidate to host the 2026-27 final at the Orange Vélodrome

"Why not Marseille? In the most beautiful stadium in France: the Vélodrome. With Mayor Benoit Payan, we will support Marseille's bid to host the Champions League final in 2027," said Sébastien Jibrayel, Deputy Mayor (Socialist Party) in charge of sport, on 24/09/2024.

Jibrayel's comments came at a time when, on the same day, UEFA officially reopened the bidding process for hosting the final of the competition in 2027, "as the municipality of Milan (ITA) could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would not be affected by refurbishment works."

If the city of Bouches-du-Rhône (southern France), which owns the Stade Orange Vélodrome (66,226 capacity) where Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1 McDonald's) plays its home matches, responds to the bidding process, the result of its bid will be known in April or May 2025, the date set by the European confederation for unveiling the chosen venue.
