Premier League: Charlie Wijeratna leaves Baku 2015 to become chief commercial officer of Aston Villa

Aston Villa (Barclays Premier League) have appointed Charlie Wijeratna as their commercial director, the first in the club's history, in order to generate more revenue through marketing and media, announced the club on 10/02/2015. Charlie Wijeratna is currently commercial director of the 2015 European Games in Baku (Azerbaijan, from 12 to 28/06/2015) and is expected to join the English club in two months (April 2015).

From the awarding of the event in 2005, Charlie Wijeratna was director of negotiations for the organising committee of the 2012 London Olympics, where he managed to attract sponsorship deals totalling more than €946m. Charlie Wijeratna was also the commercial manager of Tottenham Hotspur FC (Premier League) from November 2010 to January 2012.
