Belgium: Steven Martens resigns as general secretary of the Federation

"After long and careful thought, and numerous consultations with my family and my friends, I decided to make my mandate as Secretary General of the Belgian Football Federation available," said Steven Martens on 09/02/2015.

Some members of the KBV (Royal Belgian Football Association) "have a diametrically different views from mine about the future. No allowances have been made for me and I feel personally targeted . I talked to my family about it and I want again to devote my time to ambitious projects," added Steven Martens, 49, explaining his resignation.

  • Martens' management of finances, particularly the income from the 2014 World Cup was the subject of criticism and is the reason for his resignation, according to Belgian media.
