LFP TV rights (2020-2024): Paris Court of Appeal decision against Canal+ & beIN overturned

"The Canal+ Group welcomes the decision of the Court of Cassation (French Supreme Court) concerning its dispute with beIN SPORTS against the Ligue de Football Professionnel following the invitation to tender for the award of Ligue 1 TV rights for the period 2021-2024. The decision of the Paris Court of Appeal dated 03/02/2023, which had dismissed Canal+'s bid for the award of Ligue 1 rights in 2021, has been annulled in its entirety. The case has been referred back to the Paris Court of Appeal, which will have to give a new ruling, without being able to rely on the decisions of the French Competition Authority," stated the pay- and free-TV group on 27/09/2024.

On 03/02/2023, the Paris Court of Appeal upheld the decision handed down on 11/03/2021 by the Paris Commercial Court dismissing the claims of the Canal+ and beIN SPORTS France groups in the dispute with the LFP over Ligue 1 TV rights for the 2020-2024 cycle.
