Betting: Interwetten withdraws its German amateur football betting offer worldwide

Maltese sports betting and gambling operator Interwetten, the Deutscher Fussball Bund's official sports betting provider for the 2023-2026 cycle, is withdrawing its sports betting offer for all its international platforms on men's and women's amateur football matches in Germany, announced the DFB on 09/10/2024.

This decision, which affects all leagues below the 3.Liga, strengthens the regulations governing betting on amateur sport in Germany. Betting on amateur sport has been banned in Germany since 2021, in accordance with a provision of the State Treaty on Gambling. However, the text does not impose any restrictions on bookmakers licensed in Germany but with platforms in other countries, where they are free to offer betting on amateur sport. Where necessary, however, operators are required to prevent punters based in Germany from accessing these platforms and offers, which remain subject to German law.
