Calendar: European Leagues, FIFPRO Europe & LALIGA file complaint with EU Commission against FIFA

The European branch of FIFPRO, European Leagues and LALIGA have filed a complaint with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition against FIFA "over its conduct concerning the imposition of the international match calendar, including decisions relating to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025," announced the three parties on 14/10/2024.

"The submission follows an extensive review of the case by lawyers acting for FIFPRO Europe and European Leagues, whose boards agreed to the legal action in July. The complaint about the match calendar explains that FIFA's conflict of interest as a competition organiser and governing body, coupled with a lack of meaningful engagement with social partners, infringes European Union competition law."

In particular, FIFPRO, European Leagues and LALIGA are targeting the "Mundial de Clubes FIFA", the official name of the International Federation's first Club World Cup with 32 teams - including 12 European teams - to be held in the United States from 15/06 to 13/07/2025.
