Snapchat: a Sky News and Sky Sports channel has been launched on the application's Discover service

Snapchat, the photo and video sharing application, has partnered with the British pay-TV group Sky to launch a channel dedicated to Sky News (news channel) and Sky Sports (sports channel) on its Discover service which was launched on 27/01/2015, announced Sky on 11/02/2015.

Sky News and Sky Sports will be present on the application every afternoon and will offer 10-second headlines with the option of swiping down for a longer form version of the story. The British group said that 5-10 stories will be posted each day, and they will disappear 24 hours after publication. This service is currently only available in the UK and Ireland.

Snapchat has 200 million active users per month

  • "Our partnership with Snapchat is very exciting. We can reach a whole new audience hungry for news in a concise and creative form on a platform they already enjoy," said John McAndrew, director of news output for Sky News, 11/02/2015.
  • Snapchat does not publish its figures, but its number of monthly active users is estimated to be 200 million, according to the news agency Techcrunch on 03/01/2015.
