Stade de la Meinau: old aircraft fuselages to be recycled for use on the south stand's main façade

Former Airbus A340 aircraft fuselages are to be used as 'sunshade' panels on the main façade of the south stand at the Stade de la Meinau (Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin), which is currently being renovated and extended, according to the English architecture firm Populous on 21/10/2024.

"A total of 196 panels from these aircraft will be used, each measuring between 6 and 2.5 metres, representing the equivalent of 20 to 25 aircraft. The idea is to cut the fuselage to create a solar shading system, while allowing views of the surrounding park and river from inside the stadium. The project elevates the stadium to the status of a sustainable stadium.
