England: "Key elements of the Bill can help make the English game stronger" (Premier League)

"Following publication of the Football Governance Bill, the collective challenge now is to ensure an effective model of regulation which can work in practice. The Premier League recognises that key elements of the Bill can help make the English game stronger, including the principles of strengthened fan engagement, protecting club heritage, preventing breakaway leagues and encouraging responsible ownership," said the Premier League on 23/10/2024.

The English league's comments come as a new version of the Football Governance Bill (see below) is presented by Prime Minister Keir Starmer (Labour Party) in the House of Lords on Thursday 24/10/2024. This bill, initiated by the former government of Rishi Sunak (Conservative Party), could not be completed before the UK general election in July 2024. The "Football Governance Bill" aims in particular to "reform the governance of men's elite football in England and put fans back at the heart of the game."
