2023-24 Women's Champions League Final: an economic impact of €23m for the Basque Country (ESP)

The 2023-24 UEFA Women's Champions League final, held at the San Mamés Stadium (53,332 seats) in Bilbao (ESP) on 25/05/2024 (2-0 victory for FC Barcelona versus Olympique Lyonnais), generated an economic impact of €23m for the Spanish Basque Country, according to a study carried out by the consultancy firm Ikertalde and published by the Basque Regional Government on 30/10/2024.

This represents 17 times the amount invested by the Basque Government, the Vizcaya Provincial Council and the city of Bilbao to host the event. The event contributed €13.8m to the region's GDP and generated a direct economic impact of €4.37m.

The total economic impact breaks down as follows:
• €8.8m in spending by match spectators (hotels, transport, tourist activities, etc.);
• €7.4m of induced economic impact;
• €2.9m via service contracts with Basque companies;
• €2.7m of spending by non-residents of the region "for organisational reasons";
• €1.1m of spending by people who did not attend the match.
