AFCON 2015: the Moroccan Federation appeals to CAS over its sanctions from CAF

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) against the sanctions which were imposed on it by the African Football Confederation (CAF) following the non-organisation of the 2015 edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco due to the Ebola virus epidemic," said the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) on 17/02/2015.

CAF decided to suspend Morocco for the next two editions of AFCON, in 2017 and 2019, on 06/02/2015, to impose a fine of $1m (€882,000) and to charge the FRMF the sum of €8.05m as compensation for all material damage it suffered.

"In its appeal to the CAS, the FRMF requests the annulment of the challenged decisions and that a final award be issued by the end of March 2015. An arbitration procedure has been opened and is being conducted according to the Code of Sports-related Arbitration. The CAS will not give any more information at this time," added CAS on 17/02/2015.
