Formula 1: Mercedes-Benz to replace Renault as engine supplier to BWT Alpine F1 Team from 2026

BWT Alpine F1 Team will have a power unit supplied by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz from the 2026 season, i.e. from the entry into force of the new technical regulations in Formula 1, and "until at least 2030" (five seasons minimum), announced the French team on 12/11/2024. The agreement also covers the supply of gearboxes for single-seaters.

This announcement follows that of the French team's decision to give up factory status (i.e. to manufacture its own engine each year) from 2026. The Viry-Châtillon (Essonne, FRA) site, where Alpine's power units were built, will become "Hypertech Alpine", an engineering centre which will begin operations by the end of 2024. "Formula 1 activities at Viry, excluding the development of a new engine, will continue until the end of the 2025 season," said the Renault Group brand on 30/09/2024.

In addition to Alpine, three teams will have an engine supplied by Mercedes-Benz in 2026: Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, Williams Racing and McLaren Racing. Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team, which currently runs with a power unit from the German manufacturer…
