Bundesliga: FC St. Pauli leaves X, calling it a "hate amplifier that can influence German elections"

FC St. Pauli (Bundesliga) are leaving the social network X on which they have had an account since 2013 (and which had 250,086 fans in November 2024), announced the club on 14/11/2024.

"The reason for the withdrawal: owner Elon Musk has turned a platform for debates into a hate amplifier that can also influence the Bundestag (German Parliament) election campaign," said the club of the Tesla Motors CEO, appointed on 13/11 to head a department of "government efficiency" by Donald Trump, elected as President of the United States for a second time on 06/11/2024 (and will take office on 20/01/2025).

"Since Elon Musk bought Twitter, he has turned X into a hate machine. Racism and conspiracy theories are freely propagated or even promoted. Insults and threats are barely sanctioned and considered to be supposedly free speech. Musk had already actively supported Trump during the election campaign, notably with the help of X. This network also promotes authoritarian, discriminatory and right-wing extremist content as part of the Bundestag election campaign and manipulates public discourse"…
