The Jake Paul-Mike Tyson boxing match, the latest step in Netflix's sports entertainment strategy

Netflix will broadcast live and exclusively the boxing match between professional boxer and influencer Jake Paul (USA, 27) and former professional boxer Mike Tyson (USA, 58) on Friday 15/11/2024. The fight, originally scheduled for 20/07/2024 and postponed after Mike Tyson withdrew for medical reasons, will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington (Texas, USA). In addition to the live event, Netflix is offering a three-part documentary series on the preparation of the two fighters.

The event confirms the sports content strategy pursued by the American group, which had almost 282.7 million paying subscribers by 30/09/2024. While the streaming giant (with sales of $33.7bn in 2023) is accustomed to offering sports content in the form of documentaries and dramas, such as the series "Formula 1 - Drive to survive", now in its sixth season, Netflix is increasingly presenting itself as a broadcaster of live sport, while retaining an "entertainment" dimension.
