Bundesliga: after St Pauli, SV Werder Bremen also leave X (social network) & criticise Elon Musk

SV Werder Bremen (Bundesliga) are leaving the social network X on which they created their main account in May 2008 (and which had 539,740 followers in November 2024), announced the club on 18/11/2024. This decision also affects the club's accounts dedicated to its esports and women's teams, as well as those in English and Spanish.

The club is the second in the Bundesliga to leave this social network, four days after 1. FC St. Pauli. Bremen's reasons for leaving are similar to those of Hamburg: "Since Elon Musk took over the platform, hate speech, hatred towards minorities, right-wing extremist posts and conspiracy theories have been allowed to spread at an incredible pace, all under the guise of freedom of speech. The radicalisation of the platform is being actively driven by Elon Musk and his personal posts," said Werder about the Tesla Motors CEO, appointed on 13/11 to head a "Department of Government Efficiency" by Donald Trump, elected for a second time President of the United States on 06/11/2024 (who will take office on 20/01/2025).
